Collaborative and Accessible Web Project Delivers Clarity for the ICA

The Integrated Care Academy (ICA) is a pioneering initiative established to revolutionise health and social care through a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach.
With a bold ambition and a diverse national audience, the ICA needed a website that could clearly articulate its purpose by simplifying complex information into an engaging digital journey.

The Challenge

Content-heavy, complex to navigate, and difficult to maintain, the existing site was struggling to perform as a core marketing platform.

As an organisation with a mission statement to “Enhance quality of care, quality of life and equality as an exemplar in person-centred integrated care,” the ICA needed a digital presence that communicated that vision in a clear, engaging way.

Our approach

At TWI, everything we do, from SEO research and web design through to content writing and build, is informed by the why.

Therefore, our first port of call was to work closely with the ICA team to fully understand their mission, stakeholders and long-term goals. This ensured the website would authentically reflect their values while supporting practical business needs.

Putting this into practice, we simplified the site structure, reduced data overload and created clear, intuitive user journeys. Content was creatively edited and optimised to improve clarity, accessibility and SEO performance, while retaining the ICA’s authoritative voice.

Design & Build

Utilising the existing brand palette, we developed visually engaging, accessible page layouts that prioritised readability, clarity and engagement. The site was built mobile-first, meeting WCAG AA accessibility standards, achieving strong Google PageSpeed scores and integrating an easy-to-use content management system for internal updates.

Clear calls to action, streamlined navigation and improved content signposting now guide users confidently through the site, supporting engagement, enquiries and long-term growth

Accessibility Delivered by Design

As a key pillar of the project, accessibility was embedded from the outset and considered at every stage. Given the ICA’s role in supporting health, social care and community audiences, it was essential that the website could be accessed and used confidently by all. Our approach to accessibility included:

  • Designing all page layouts with clear visual hierarchy, consistent spacing and strong colour contrast to support readability
  • Ensuring all typography met accessibility guidelines for size, line spacing and legibility
  • Structuring content using correct semantic HTML to support screen readers and assistive technologies
  • Implementing fully accessible navigation that works effectively via keyboard, screen readers and touch devices
  • Providing meaningful alternative text for imagery to ensure content is accessible to users with visual impairments
  • Ensuring forms, buttons and calls to action were clearly labelled and easy to interact with
  • Testing responsiveness across devices to guarantee a consistent experience for mobile, tablet and desktop users

By integrating accessibility into design, content and build, the final website meets WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards and reflects the ICA’s commitment to inclusion, equality and person-centred care.
