Transforming Reporting into Storytelling – A Design-Led Approach to Celebrating Impact
Rather than producing a traditional annual report, they partnered with TWI to create their very first Community Impact Report; a publication that not only documented their progress but told their story.
Why a community impact report?
- A people-first approach that resonates with supporters, stakeholders, and the wider public
- A visual narrative showcasing achievements through photography, illustration, and design
- An emotionally engaging format that celebrates individuals, milestones, and values – not just numbers
- Accessibility for a broad readership including funders, local partners, volunteers, and families
For a purpose-led organisation like Level Best, this format was the perfect way to reflect their ethos, energy, and inclusive culture.
Our approach
We helped shape a compelling narrative around:
- The organisation’s mission and values
- Highlights from each of the four core enterprises: it’s Gardening activities, Seasonal Produce including locally grown and produced jams and chutneys, Art and Gallery space, and, of course, the thriving Colchester City Centre cafe.
- Trainee journeys and community partnerships
- Visibility and community engagement
- Financial transparency, presented clearly and accessibly
We collaborated with Level Best every step of the way. Every page was written with clarity and pride, ensuring the tone was professional, but always personal.
Our creative lead Lindsay designed a fully bespoke layout to showcase each of Level Best’s four enterprises each given their own distinct visual identity within the report, including:
- Custom-designed icons and infographics
- Colour-coded sections for intuitive navigation
- High-quality photography celebrating real trainees, staff, and customers
- Pull-quotes and case studies for added human impact
We designed with accessibility in mind using clear typefaces, logical hierarchy, and alternative text for digital use.
The support they have offered us, particularly at such a crucial time for our organisation, has been invaluable. I have discovered that they will go above and beyond to support us as an organisation, and I can’t recommend them enough.

Impact and reception
The Community Impact Report was extremely well received by stakeholders and supporters alike. It has been used by Level Best to:
- Demonstrate impact to funders and grant providers
- Engage new local business sponsors
- Attract volunteers and new partnerships
- Celebrate their trainees’ achievements with families and the wider community
It has also become a cornerstone of the organisation’s communications toolkit—an evergreen asset that reflects who they are and where they’re going.
As Level Best continues to grow, TWI is proud to support their journey with creative solutions that reflect their heart and ambition. The Community Impact Report is more than a document; it’s a tool for change, storytelling, and connection.
