Congratulations to Lindsay, who really put Vegas’ iconic stamp on the design, capturing the energy and excitement of both the city and the Team
Christian Horner, Former Team Principal and CEO of Oracle Red Bull Racing.
Six weeks earlier, Lindsay was enjoying a holiday in the serene Montenegrin city of Kotor when a Zoom call from Oracle Red Bull Racing’s (ORBR) media team revealed that she was the winner of Make Your Mark Las Vegas – a competition which gave fans the chance to see their own design come to life on the team’s championship-winning car for the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
“It was a surreal moment!” explains Lindsay. “I saw the competition on Instagram and thought it would be fun. It was so different from anything I’d designed before. The Las Vegas-inspired brief challenged me to create something bold and bright, and it really ignited my creative fire!
“Reaching the Top 10 was crazy enough. And, while I never let myself believe it would actually happen, I did feel like I was in with a chance.”
The people agreed, with Lindsay’s design emerging as the winning entry following a public ballot of more than 24,000 votes.
The design brief was to create something that would ‘look good under the Las Vegas lights,’ so I drew inspiration from the city itself. Las Vegas is all about vibrant neon and the thrill of casinos, and I wanted the livery to capture that energy.”
The design
Inspired by the infamous neon lights of the Las Vegas strip, Lindsay’s Two of a Kind livery concept encapsulated the intoxicating combination of the high stakes thrills of the city’s casinos and the awe-inspiring speed of F1 that made the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix one of the biggest global events of 2023. Lindsay’s vision paid tribute to both the city’s vibrant energy and ORBR’s world-class driving duo, six-time Grand Prix winner Sergio Perez and four-time World Champion Max Verstappen.
The factory
With the race fast approaching, Lindsay was invited to ORBR’s MK7 HQ in Milton Keynes to see her design come to life.
Going behind the scenes for the day, Lindsay toured the factory, learned all about how her design was painted onto the livery of an F1 car, and even filmed her starring role in the reveal video alongside the paint shop team – Tim H, Tim J and David. Lindsay shared her experience of a day she will never forget, saying:
“Visiting the Red Bull HQ was incredible. Seeing the process up close gave me so much respect for the craftsmanship. I kept pinching myself – it felt unreal to watch my design come to life with such precision and care.”
The reveal
Three short days later, Lindsay was boarding a flight to Sin City eagerly awaiting the first glimpse of her creation in its entirety. When it comes to ripping up the rulebook and creating a splash, not many do it better than Red Bull.
So perhaps the world shouldn’t have been surprised when the “Neon Bull” burst into view amongst pyrotechnics, acrobatic dancers and ticker tape, suspended from the ceiling above the packed dancefloor of Omnia Nightclub.
The media went wild. The Neon Bull featured in some of the sporting world’s biggest media outlets, including Sports Illustrated, Top Gear, and Total Motorsport – not to mention Lindsay making the front page of the Colchester Gazette.
Pit lane premiere
You know what they say about premieres, they’re are like London buses. Next stop for Lindsay was the new US$240 million Grand Prix Plaza on Las Vegas Boulevard, where she would unveil the car to the watching media, some of whom had questions for Lindsay herself – as she explains:
“I had the honour of being a part of revealing the car to the press with Christian Horner just before the first practice session. I was then interviewed by F1 journalists, which was super nerve-racking, including one for Sky Sports Germany!
To top it off, I enjoyed VIP garage access during practice as a Red Bull Racing guest – even meeting Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez – an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
Lindsay’s epic experience was capped by another winning moment when Max Verstappen stood atop the podium having safely shepherded her design to 1st place around the iconic Vegas streets.
It only seems fitting that Lindsay has the last word on her crowning achievement…
“I always strive to be bold with my designs and think outside the box. I try not to limit myself to conventional standards, as sometimes the most unexpected ideas can lead to something ‘F1 worthy’.
Seeing my design take P1 on race night made it all feel like a dream come true.”
Looking forward
It doesn’t take a global spectacle to get Lindsay’s creative juices flowing – although it certainly helps! She brings the same creativity, precision and flair to every project, taking enormous pride in delivering visual concepts that stand out from the crowd – whether it’s for the Vegas Strip or a new brand identity for your organisation.
