This story starts the way all good stories start, with two full-grown adults repeatedly saying “Donkey Sanctuary” into their mobile phones.
There was a method to the madness. My girlfriend and I would talk about going to Marrakesh. Suddenly we start seeing sponsored posts for Visit Morocco. We talk about getting a cat. We start seeing sponsored posts for Colchester Cat Rescue. We, or I, talk about going on a diet. We, I, start seeing adverts for fast food.
There is only one possibility, our phones are listening to us.
So, we thought we’d put it to the test. We decided to talk about the most random thing we could think of, something that seemed the most unlikely product or service to be using smart social media advertising and prove, once and for all, that this was no coincidence.
We picked donkey sanctuaries. And we started saying “Donkey Sanctuary” clearly into our phones three or four times every day. But the question remained. If we talk about donkey sanctuaries will we start seeing sponsored posts for donkey sanctuaries? The answer was no. At least for a long time.
Eighteen Months Later…
Then, one day when we least expected it, something magical happened.
Safe Haven for Donkeys made all our dreams come true…and confirmed our worst suspicions. Our phones are definitely listening to us and using what we say to deliver targeted adverts into our news feeds.
However, as scary as this may be on a human level, it is an unmissable opportunity to market your business.
